On January 5, 2019, Attorney Evan Goldstein, Chair/President of the UVM Alumni Association Hartford Affinity Group, helped coordinate the Second Annual Networking & Job Fair event for students of the University of Vermont & recent graduates. This event was held at Keeney Manufacturing Co. & co-sponsored by the UVM Career Center. Students & recent graduates from UVM were able to speak with alumni & networkers in the areas of engineering, finance, marketing, sales, agriculture, education, health care, accounting, banking, IT, entrepreneurship, environmental, government & law. Students & recent UVM alumni attended this event from all over New England & the Tri-state area.

The officers & the Board of Directors of Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, P.C. (“UKS”) are pleased to announce the appointment of UKS Principal Attorney Thomas J. Welsh as the General Counsel of Nippon Steel & Sumikin Bussan Americas, Inc. (“NSBA”), effective as of January 1, 2019. NSBA is a trading company dealing with ferrous & non-ferrous metals, food & machinery & equipment with headquarters office in Chicago & with offices in Pittsburgh, Houston, Los Angeles area & Mexico City, Mexico & has joint ventures & facilities throughout the United States & Mexico. 

Attorney Welsh will have an office address & contact information at the NSBA Chicago headquarters but will remain as Counsel to UKS & will have his primary office & contracts at the UKS Hartford office.  Attorney Welsh is recognized for his work in commercial law & finance & other business law matters & will continue to supervise matters & serve UKS clients from its offices in Connecticut.

Welsh, President of Meriden Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) announced that on Saturday November 24, 2018, the first ever YuleFest & Holiday Marketplace event will be held in downtown Meriden from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This event is supported by the Making Meriden Business Center (MMBC) which is operated by MEDCO in downtown Meriden. On Friday November 30, 2018, Christopher Brigham, Chair of the Employment Practices Group will be a featured presenter at the 2018 TABS (The Association of Boarding Schools) Annual Conference in Washington D.C.. Attorney Brigham will be presenting on the topic of Best Practices for Effective Sexual Harassment Prevention Training in the Wake of #metoo Movement. On Thursday October 25, 2018, Attorney Bonnie Kumiega will be accepting the Economic Development Award on behalf of the firm. This Event will take place at the Tolland County Chamber of Commerce 61st Annual Meeting. UKS is one of four companies to receive this award for business & job growth. On October 4, 2018, John Acampora was honored by the New Haven County Bar Association at this year’s Fall Annual Dinner. On September 11, 2018, Donald Doeg was the featured speaker at a seminar hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Connecticut. Attorney Doeg presented on the topic of Avoiding Pitfalls in Contract Language.  The seminar covered a wide variety of topics including a general overview of construction contracts, dispute & resolution, fees, billing & payment, & other key contract provisions.
