Benjamin A. Wiles served as co-instructor for a University of Connecticut course entitled “Special Projects in Blockchain”, a unique course cross-listed in the UConn School of Business, UConn Law School, & UConn Department of Engineering.  MBA students, law students & computer science majors formed teams to build working prototypes of distributed ledger applications.  The students explored the basic building blocks of coding distributed ledger applications, the elements of an enforceable “smart contract” & the business use cases for distributed ledger applications.  Some student teams intend to explore continuing their projects through the state’s startup incubators.

Three of the attorneys at this firm have been tapped to serve on the Governor elect’s Transition Team. Robert J. Martino is serving on the Transition Steering Committee alongside 18 other leaders. Robert J. Martino & Arunan D. Arulampalam were selected to serve on the “Jobs & Economy” subcommittee, & Benjamin A. Wiles was selected to serve on the Data Strategy Sub-Committee. Robert J Martino is also chairing Lieutenant Governor-elect Susan Bysiewicz’s Transition Committee.

Thomas J. On Friday November 30, 2018, Christopher Brigham, Chair of the Employment Practices Group will be a featured presenter at the 2018 TABS (The Association of Boarding Schools) Annual Conference in Washington D.C.. On Thursday October 25, 2018, Attorney Bonnie Kumiega will be accepting the Economic Development Award on behalf of the firm. This Event will take place at the Tolland County Chamber of Commerce 61st Annual Meeting. UKS is one of four companies to receive this award for business & job growth. On September 11, 2018, Donald Doeg was the featured speaker at a seminar hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Connecticut. Attorney Doeg presented on the topic of Avoiding Pitfalls in Contract Language.  The seminar covered a wide variety of topics including a general overview of construction contracts, dispute & resolution, fees, billing & payment, & other key contract provisions.
