Robert J. Martino is Treasurer of the Firm and Chairman of the Firm's Commercial Lending & Banking and Real Estate Finance Practice Groups. Mr. Martino focuses his practice on the representation of banks, commercial finance companies and other financial institutions in all aspects of commercial lending, asset-based acquisition financing and commercial real estate financing. He has extensive experience in the representation of lenders in syndications, participations and other multiple lender loan transactions and in the area of workout and asset recovery. He has particular experience in the representation of lenders to REITs, and pension funds, as well as to healthcare, high tech and other "specialized industry" borrowers.

In the real estate area, Mr. Martino represents real estate lenders, developers, investors and real estate professionals in all aspects of sales, financing, leasing, property management and title issues. He has extensive experience in all aspects of office, retail, industrial and multi-family lease negotiations, and review, modifications and workouts on behalf of lenders, landlords and tenants. His experience in the representation of REITs and pension funds extends to representation in connection with the acquisition, financing and development of real estate. Mr. Martino was awarded the 2012 Greater Hartford Convention and Visitors Bureau Founders Award for Excellence in Hospitality for his impact on the industry.

In addition, Mr. Martino has been involved in several major financing transactions for many of the state’s insurance companies and banking institutions. Clients he has advised include Citigroup, Bank of America, M&T Bank, Citizens Bank, TD Bank and The Hartford Insurance Group.

Mr. Martino has published numerous articles dealing with banking and related issues and is a frequent speaker on matters relating to commercial lending and real estate finance. He serves in various leadership roles on a number of regional non-profit boards and commissions, professional and trade associations and serves on various corporate boards. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Conference of Community and Justice, the Wethersfield Chapter of UNICO National, and The Cherish the Children Foundation.

Mr. Martino is a Past President of the Greater Hartford Convention and Visitors Bureau and a Past President of the Real Estate Finance Association.

Mr. Martino served on the Wethersfield Town Council from 1989 to 1994, the Clinton presidential campaigns in 1992 and 1996, was legal counsel for the Connecticut Legal Counsel, Coordinated Campaign "94", Chairperson of the Friends of Susan Bysiewicz and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz's Transition Team and was legal counsel for the Gejdenson Recount Committee, 2001, Member of Governor Lamont’s Transition Team. He is also a graduate of Leadership Greater Hartford, Class of 1994, and a member of the American, Connecticut and Hartford County Bar Associations.

Mr. Martino received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law where he was a 1993 finalist of the Alva P. Loiselle Moot Court Competition.  He received his B.A. in Political Economy from the Johns Hopkins University.
