Matthew K. Stiles is an associate in the firm’s Hartford office, practicing in the areas of bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and appellate law.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Stiles was a judicial law clerk at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut for the Honorable James J. Tancredi. Prior to clerking for Judge Tancredi, Mr. Stiles also clerked at the Connecticut Appellate Court for the Honorable Robert E. Beach, Jr., the Honorable Joseph P. Flynn, the Honorable William J. Lavery, and the Honorable Flemming L. Norcott, Jr.

While attending law school, Mr. Stiles was an Articles Editor of the Michigan Journal of Environmental & Administrative Law. He also was a student attorney for the Michigan Law Criminal Appellate Practice clinic, where, under the supervision of attorneys from Michigan’s State Appellate Defender Office, he represented an indigent defendant in the appeal of his felony conviction. Mr. Stiles also interned at the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission and was a summer associate at another New England firm.

Mr. Stiles received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and his B.A. and M.Ed. from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Before attending law school, Mr. Stiles was a high school teacher, a high school and college track and field coach, and a human services worker for individuals with autism.
