A well established program which provides exposure to the business and litigation aspects of law.
Our Summer Associate Program
We have a well-established program for summer associates based in our Hartford office which provides a mix of assignments that seeks to maximize a summer associate's exposure to the business and litigation aspects of the Firm's practice. Occasionally summer associates work for a portion of time in our New Haven office on an "as needed" basis. The program runs for ten weeks, beginning shortly after Memorial Day.
Summer associate projects can include:
- Legal research and writing
- Preparation of legal memoranda, briefs and discovery documents
- Document production
- Assistance with real estate closings and file review
- Assistance with research and writing in very visible litigation matters
- Attendance at, and assistance with preparation of , depositions, court appearances and administrative hearings
Assignments are supervised directly by attorneys, affording daily interaction on active matters. One or two senior associates coordinate workflow distribution. Formal and informal feedback and performance evaluations occur throughout the summer. This approach ensures that summer associates receive the most meaningful response to their work with maximum opportunity for useful feedback. The Firm also seeks its summer associates' input on the program and their experiences before they return to law school at the end of the summer.
The Firm's Culture
Our culture is professional and collegial. We believe the concept of teamwork is essential to the success of our practice and the summer program. As part of the team for their assigned matters or projects, each summer associate has the opportunity to work closely with junior and senior attorneys.
Social Activities
An important aspect of the Summer Associate Program is the opportunity to get to know the Firm and its attorneys, both professionally and socially. Social activities are an integral part of our Summer Associate Program. Summer associates frequently lunch with attorneys and enjoy the following types of social activities in and around Connecticut:
- A visit to the Firm's New Haven office, hosted by New Haven Managing Principal, David J. Monz
- "Lunch with Legends," weekly dining with senior principals of the Firm in an informal setting
- Concerts at the New England Dodge Music Center
- Lunch and a tour of the State Capitol with members of our Public Affairs & Government Relations Practice Group
- Attendance at a Red Sox baseball game
- A bowling outing and a softball tournament with other law firms
- Cookouts hosted by the Firm's attorneys.
The Interviewing Process
We prepare an annual schedule of interviewing at the following law schools:
- Albany Law School (Hartford Interview Program)
- Boston College
- Boston University
- Georgetown University
- Quinnipiac University
- University of Connecticut
Following on-campus interviews, students who are invited to our office for additional interviews should make arrangements through our Recruitment Coordinator, Debra A. Amato. Her telephone number is (860) 509-5338.
Ms. Amato will establish a mutually convenient time for in-office interviews. Such interviews generally include four individual meetings in either the morning or early afternoon, with a cross section of principals and associates. Profiles of the attorneys you will interview with may be found in the "Attorneys" section of our website.
Interviews are conducted in our Hartford office. We are located within walking distance of mass transportation and parking is available in the One State Street Parking Garage adjacent to our building. Please contact Ms. Amato if it becomes necessary to make any changes to your schedule.
Hiring decisions are made on a continuing basis throughout the fall. Please feel free to contact us if you would like additional information.
