UKS Attorney Robert M. “Bob” Martino has received a prestigious leadership award by the Greater Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) for helping to make Greater Hartford a successful convention and major events venue.
Martino was presented with the Founders Award by Chairman Robert F. Flynn. In presenting Martino with the award Flynn remarked that Martino's legal insight and expertise were “invaluable” to the GHCVB's efforts. He further pointed out that Martino, who formally resigned from the GHCVB board earlier in the day at the annual meeting after 12 years of service, was Chairman of the GHCVB during a pivotal time in its history when it was forming its relationship with the Capital City Economic Development Authority (CCEDA). That partnership helped set the stage for the 2005 development of the Connecticut Convention Center at Adriaen’s Landing, the largest convention facility between New York and Boston.
Significantly, it was also announced that this year’s Leadership Awards will be the last given on behalf of the GHCVB. On June 27th the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and the Greater Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau announced the formation of the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau (CTCSB) as the successor organization of the GHCVB. This new entity will be dedicated to increasing the state’s convention, meeting and sports events business.
